Clips from Wiggly Waffle launch day FOUND!

 Attention all Sproutlets and Wiggles fans alike! I’ve found a YouTube video from a Wiggles fan and, since it's a temporary upload, I decided to upload it on my ow channel! Do you have any idea what it is?

No. Well, I’m gonna tell you. Are you sitting down?

Sitting down on a moon couch with a star-shaped pillow puppet? Laying eggs? Driving a cardboard car or the Big Red Car?

Because...

Wait for it...

IT CONTAINS CLIPS FROM THE VERY FIRST BROADCAST OF WIGGLY WAFFLE!!!

That's right folks! That was the video I was talking about earlier. It contains split-screen credits after a Wiggle and Learn episode and Sam, age 4, Bethesda, Maryland as the fifth wiggle dancing to "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." The Wiggles were also on The Sunny Side Up Show that day with Kelly Vrooman and Chica. Noticeably, there is a first generation scroll with a message about the block's launch.

I hope we'll find clips from The Sunny Side Up Show's, The Let's Go Show's, and/or The Sprout Sharing Show's launch days, since they’re too good to be lost. Maybe we'll even find Sprout clips from its launch day in 2005! Fingers crossed.

EDIT: I deleted the video and replaced it with a full launch day clip that was uploaded today.

My Week with Kindness Counts: One Small Act at a Time

 

In 2013, Sprout promoted Kindness Counts by holding a contest called The Kindest Kid, in which they would select five kid finalists who have been kind to others or to the earth, and the winner would take a trip to Philadelphia to become Sprout's "Chief Kindness Officer" for a day and visit The Sunny Side Up Show. A countdown was held on TV in December 2013, hosted by Chica and Kelly Vrooman, who introduced kind-themed episodes of Sprout shows leading to the premiere of The Chica Show episode "All of a Kind Chica" and a new Laurie Berliner song. The winner ended up being Emma Lock, the founder of Lock Boxes of Love.

In 2014, the contest was held again and the winner was Sierra Preveza, the founder of Childhood Cancer Kids.

The Sunny Side Up Show YouTube videos from Peacock Jr. made private

 

Attention everyone. I have news. The Peacock jr. account has made most Sunny Side Up Show videos on their YouTube channel private, meaning they’re now unavailable. Now, before you get all grouchy, take a deep breath, maybe count to ten, they may become unlisted or even public again someday. In the meantime, you can check out SSU videos from my channel, Let's Grow, jackiempayton, and some other accounts. Those channels may get terminated someday. And while we’re at it, we're waiting for more classic Sunny Side Up Show segments, cause there's a big market for them. Who knows, maybe someone like me will find them someday?

My Week with Kindness Counts: The Muscle

In 2017, Sprout focused on Kindness Counts a little more with a nice music video featuring real kids, including Aidan Prince, Mimi Ryder, Gloria Manning, and William Alexander. The music video is up above, while here is the lyric video. 

This song really has a third generation-ish feel to it, which I don’t like, but it's OK. Plus, have you noticed the muscle wearing Sprout sneakers?

My Week with Kindness Counts: The Song

 In 2013, Sprout welcomed new Sunny Side Up Show hosts Tim Kubart and Kaitlin Becker by having them on the float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The song they sang? A new original song called "Kindness Counts," a song about kind acts.

In 2014, Kubart, Becker, Chica, Dennisha Pratt, and Carly Ciarrocchi made a music video using the same song with real kids, and boy are they good singers?

The house-like set from the music video was inspired by two things - "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child and the opening to A Different World.

My Week with Kindness Counts: The Sponsors

 Sprout has often partnered with other companies to promote Kindness Counts.

In 2012, Sprout partnered with The Little Gym, a chain of children's gymnastics centers (I went there once for a birthday party). At the Levittown location in Long Island, students could talk about kind things they did and their acts would be hung up in the lobby.

In 2014, Sprout teamed up with KIND for "Operation Kind Kids."

My Week with Kindness Counts: PSAs

 Hello friends. This week I’m going to be covering a promotion Sprout had about kindness: Kindness Counts. Because small acts matter big!

The promotion started in 2011, launching with four PSAs featuring Sprout talent and characters.

Let's start off with this one. Big Bird from Sesame Street is on the swings, all alone. Two kids (including actress Adriana Camposano) invite him to play with them (which adds to the Kindness Counter), and Ann Curry interviews them. Brian Williams adds "Kindness, how touching." Go Ann and Brian!

In this one, our friend Barney the Dinosaur is at a family's house for dinner, but has trouble reaching a slice of bread. A girl named Kaylee hands him the bread, and Barney tells her that doing something kind adds to the Kindness Counter.

In this one, Kelly Vrooman watches as Chica plays with her friends.

Some more Kindness Counts PSAs were made for NBC's "The More You Know" in 2014. These new PSAs featured Nina, the Sunny Side Up Show hosts, and characters from Astroblast!.

My Week with 2010: All Aboard!

Madeline Fretz - You know the band Train? And you know Pat Monahan, their lead singer? And did you know he once voiced a cartoon character?

Yep. It’s true! On a show that aired on Sprout.

Driver Dan's Story Train is a British children's show about a lion (voiced by Peter Serafinowicz) who reads stories to his friends. 

The show came to Sprout on November 1, 2010, the day after Halloween, and the same day Liz Filios hosted her first Sunny Side Up Show. The titular character was now voiced by Monahan, which makes sense because the show was about trains. It aired at 6:30PM and 8:30PM ET on The Good Night Show. It was another show for parents complaining about GNS not having a turning point, as they could turn it off after this or Nina's Little Fables.

The show left on Halloween 2013, a day before the anniversary of its Sprout premiere. However, its Sproutonline.com page remained up.

My Week with 2010: Go Get Grubby

 

In 2010, Sprout was looking for new acquired series from companies other than its four founders and coming from different countries. At first, the only acquired shows were Bounce, Dive Olly Dive, and the Mighty Jungle. Now it was time for more!

Dirtgirlworld was the next step. The Australian environmental series premiered on Sprout during Earth Day 2010 as part of Dig Into Earth Day, an Afternoon marathon of episodes. It also got its own page on Sproutonline.com. After that, the show aired daily on The Sprout Sharing Show until 2012, when it quit the network. It was found very creepy by many viewers.

My Week with 2010: Another Dress Up Day

 Nowadays, kids watch Peppa Pig and speak in British accents. Apparently, Sprout aired British programming too, and I wonder if kids did the same back then. This show had a lot of those:

Chloe's Closet is a children's show about a Welsh girl named (SURPRISE!) Chloe and her friends going on dress-up adventures in her closet. 

The show first aired on Sprout on July 12, 2010 during The Sprout Sharing Show (at 5:30PM) and The Sunny Side Up Show (at 11:30AM). It also found a timeslot on Wiggly Waffle at 8:30AM. The show last aired in December 2016.

My Week with 2010: Tell Us a Fable

Madeline Fretz - Aesop's Fables are timeless stories that continue to be told to today’s children in many ways. One of them was on TV.

The company Smartoonz produced a show called "Little Fables" that later aired on Sprout during The Good Night Show in 2010 as "Nina's Little Fables," narrated by Nina and Star. The show replaced Make Way for Noddy, which left, on the schedule. Noddy returned to Sprout in 2012.

Nina's Little Fables was for parents who complained about the block not having a "turning point." As some sort of story told during the block (most shows on the schedule were story-like), parents could turn it off after Nina's Little Fables, and have a night of sweet dreams. The show likewise left Sprout when Season 6 of The Good Night Show premiered with the new "Sandy Stories" segment.

My Week with 2010: Let's Cook and Craft!

 

Madeline Fretz - Hi, my name is Maddie, and welcome to a week where we're covering 2010, a great year! This was not an ordinary year for Sprout, as the channel let go of The Let's Go Show to have LIVE weekend broadcasts of The Sunny Side Up Show. What did it do to promote?

When Sprout launched, its original series were all interstitials - The Many Adventures of Mr. Mailman, Sprout Diner, and Jim Henson's Pajanimals (the latter would get its own half-hour series in 2011). Sprout executives decided to try something different, something they have never done before… a full-length, half-hour series!

What was the half-hour series called? Noodle and Doodle. The series taught viewers how to make crafts and recipes that also got their own pages on Sproutonline.com - in fact, the show also got its own website on Sproutonline.com. The new show aired on weekends on The Sunny Side Up Show.

The series was hosted by actor Sean Roach, who joined The Sunny Side Up Show in early 2008. Roach was joined by a new female puppet character named Noodle McNoodle, played by an unknown actor. The duo was joined by real kids who would help out with the lessons.

The show also had its own animated segment called Doggity's Diner, which was basically Sprout Diner with dogs. That also got a page on Sproutonline.com.

The show proved very popular and continued to air daily on Sprout until Summer 2017.

Cape Charles

 I’ve been in Cape Charles this week, just as I do every Fourth of July weekend. We just arrived home yesterday. Here are some cool pics!

Highlights? We decorated a golf kart, I had chocolate milkshakes almost every day, we went to the Szalays' rented house and watched Hamilton on Disney+, went to the brewery, and had cocktail parties at our, Aunt Cynthia, and Aunt Mary's rented houses.

Here's something that happened on July 9th. I was swimming in the beach with some family friends. Just then, I got STUNG by jellyfish, and got out crying and screaming. Mom took me back to give me a bath, and gave me vinegar Grandma (the author of "Portrait of a Town" who grew up in Cape Charles) got from Aunt Cynthia's, and Mom gave me some orange juice from a Foodlion. I wore one of her long shirts without pants for a while, and she made me a chocolate milkshake.
