Musical Mornings with Coo

Madeline Fretz - Musical Mornings with Coo was a programming block that started broadcasting on Sprout on September 26, 2007 (same day as The Sunny Side Up Show) and stopped airing in 2009, when Sprout's Wiggly Waffle premiered. Coo was a puppet by Henson Digital Studios, and was voiced by Julianne Buescher.

Elizabeth Balzano was the live action host who would accompany Coo and sing songs that teach kids valuable life lessons. She previously hosted Bounce, a third-party Sprout program which aired on the channel from 2007 to 2009.

PBS Kids Sprout is focusing its promotional energies on a new program dubbed ‘We Share’ that’s designed to encourage parents and preschoolers to spend more quality time together.
The 24/7 preschool diginet developed the campaign in partnership with creative agency Red Tettermer, and the goal is to highlight shared experiences triggered by PBS Kids Sprout’s on-demand and online programming.
A series of TV ads featuring preschoolers enjoying and sharing everyday moments with moms, dads and caregivers will be linked to popular Sprout shows like Sesame Street, Barney & Friends and Caillou. The ads focus on how the on-demand and online nature of Sprout’s platform allow parents to play a more active role in their children’s TV time.
Launching on April 23, the campaign will also cover print outlets including industry trade and consumer mags, as well as billboards, targeted online advertising and bus shelter ads throughout the US.

This was used on billboards, commercials, and even CD roms!

There was even an online game where you could make your own poster for this advertisement! However, only logged in people could post it to "My Refrigerator."

Angelina Ballerina

NOTE: Both PBS Kids and Sprout also aired a spin-off/reboot called The Next Steps (not to be confused with the Canadian show that aired when Sprout became Universal Kids) which was in CGI.

Madeline Fretz - Angelina Ballerina was a British cartoon based on a children's book, produced by HiT Entertainment (who also produced Barney & Friends, Bob the Builder, and Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends), and aired on PBS. It was about a little mouse named Angelina (and I don't mean Jolie) learning to dance. The show aired on Sprout from September 26, 2005 to September 26, 2015, as HiT was one of the channel's founders.

The show had a Sprout Diner recipe; Angelina's Ballet Slippers.

The show left Sprout during the rebrand.

Thanks for Giving Week

As the American Thanksgiving holiday approaches, PBS Kids Sprout is kicking off its Thanks-For-Giving celebration on Monday, November 23.
Sean and his puppet friend Chica the Chicken from The Sunny Side Up Show will thank important community helpers who make everyone’s lives better and safer, including teachers, policemen and farmers, among others. Sprout viewers can send in notes, videos and artwork about people in their lives for whom they are thankful by heading over to SproutOnline.com and submissions will be featured on-air throughout the week.
On Thanksgiving Day, parents and preschoolers can call in live to The Sunny Side Up Show between 9 a.m. and noon ET and share their thoughts on why they are thankful this season. Meanwhile, viewers can tune-in for the premier of a new Thanksgiving Good Night show episode at 6 p.m. ET. More details are available at SproutOnline.com, along with Thanksgiving crafts.
The kidnet is also in its second year of the Great Sprout Tuck-In campaign, which benefits the national Pajama Program, delivering new pajamas and books to children in need across the US. Sprout is encouraging viewers to visit SproutOnline.com to learn more about how families can host their own pajama parties and donation drives. The Great Sprout Tuck-In is being sponsored for the second consecutive year by Johnson’s Bedtime Bath and Bedtime Lotion.

Sprout often had a Thanks for Giving Week with Thanksgiving-themed programming and phone calls on the Sunny Side Up Show.

As a result, Barney the Dinosaur appeared twice on the Sunny Side Up Show.

The Kindest Kid

In 2013, Sprout held a contest for kind Sproutlets' acts. The Sproutlets would enter the full rules on SproutOnline.com and become Sprout's Chief Kindness Officer for a day. The contest was sponsored by Thomas & Friends.

Kindness can range from holding the door open for someone to sharing toys or food.

Sprout recently launched a campaign to find the Kindest Kid in America with its Kindest Kid Contest, part of its ongoing Kindness Counts prosocial initiative.

To enter the contest, families must provide a photo and short description at sproutonline.com/kindness-counts and explain how their child helped the family, a friend, the community, an animal or any other positive everyday contribution.

The winner will be announced line on Sprout on Dec. 21 in a three-hour programming special. The winning child will win a trip to Sprouts headquarters in Philadelphia with their family to be Sprouts honorary Chief Kindness Officer for the day. Theyll tour Sprout and the Sunshine Barn, meet Chica from The Chica Show and record segments about kindness that will air in 2014.

Caillou

Madeline Fretz - Caillou was a Canadian cartoon airing on PBS about a boy playing at home, going to school and on his outings. However, the show was largely hated due to the main character's whining. The show aired on Sprout and then Universal Kids from September 26, 2005 to March 31, 2019, but it is unknown why the show survived both the 10th anniversary and the Universal Kids launch even though it was a PBS show.

Sprout described the series as:

Caillou is a wide-eyed four-year-old who learns about life - one adventure at a time! From his own backyard to his very first airplane ride, Caillou discovers the wonder and excitement of being a little boy in a very big world.

When one episode aired on Sprout, the "hate" in "I Hate Baseball" was edited out because Sprout didn't like curse words.

The show also had a Sprout Diner recipe, Caillou's Crunchy Carrot Salad.

The show also had a Grandparents' Day marathon, featuring messages from Sproutlets to their grandparents.

The show left UniKids on March 31, 2019.

Barney & Friends

Madeline Fretz - Barney & Friends was a show based on a series of videos that aired on PBS from 1992 to 2009. The show featured a group of kid actors coming to visit a schoolhouse run by a purple dinosaur and his dino friends Baby Bop, BJ, and Riff to solve a problem or learn something new. The show has been largely hated, even inspiring a Bashing club in the 90s. The show is notable for launching the careers of Disney Channel's Selena Gomez (Gianna) and Demi Lovato (Angela), which should go on any "Celebrities who were on kids shows before they were famous" list. The show aired on Sprout from September 26, 2005 to 2015, as HiT Entertainment was one of the channel's founders. 

Sprout described the series as:

Purple, fun-loving and happy, Barney is not your typical dinosaur. He's a huggable, lovable 200 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus Rex. Barney, and his DINO-mite friends BJ and Baby Bop, help parents give their children the range of skills they need to grow, and always do it with lots of fun, music and laughs.

Barney has had many appearances on The Sunny Side Up Show to begin with. He first appeared in 2007 for Thanksgiving with Nina. He also appeared with Sean in the St. Valentine's Day blockisode from 2009, Dinosaurs Week with Kelly in 2010, Valentine's Day 2011 (again), and Thanksgiving Week with Liz and Chica. Riff also appeared once.

That Purple Wonder also had a Sprout Diner recipe; Barney's Purple Hummus Dip.

Barney's Holiday Movie and Barney's Christmas Star have also been on Sprout in 2010 and 2011 for "Elmo's Movie Merry-thon." A reboot was supposed to happen once 9 Story Media Group acquired the show, but was unfinished.

The show left Sprout for the rebrand, however, it returned to Universal Kids in December 2018.
