The Top Ten Songs of: The Sunny Side Up Show

That's right! After My Week and the new Weekly Wednesdays, I've started another new series here on this blog - introducing "The Top 10 Songs." Like Weekly Wednesdays, this new series is based on what the Muppet Mindset blog used to do. Nowadays, it merged with ToughPigs, who inspired the My Week series.

This is mainly the Top 10 Songs, but on occasions it will be something like the Top 10 Moments. What will I focus on first? Good question.

The Sunny Side Up Show has had many songs over the years, so I'm focusing on them first! Here we go now Sunny Style, let's get started!

10. The Birthday Song

It's impossible not to have a list of Sunny Side Up Show songs and not include this! It's been on for almost every broadcast - as a way to introduce birthday segments. The lyrics are stylistically nice, but they include too much "Happy Happy Birthday." HONORABLE MENTION: Construction Site Song

9. Days of the Week
This is a fun little ditty about the seven days of the week. Carly Ciarrocchi is terrific, always terrific, especially in this funky tune. In the song, Chica dresses up as animals while, at her best, Ciarrocchi sings about the days of the week. "Monday, get your monkey on!"

8. Pet Song
Host Tim Kubart steals the spotlight in our next song! Here, he sings about different pets Chica once again dresses up as. The beat and lyrics make it perfect for Sunny Side Up at the time. And all that make it a great listening song!

7. The Wrap Rap
Now for a song from classic SSU! Kevin Yamada is great at rapping - something I think they’ve never done again on The Sunny Side Up Show after this. Anyways, this song is about wrap and how great it goes on food. We could all really use a little of this in our lives nowadays, right?

6. Working Time
This YouTube video above is from my channel, and taken from a Juicebox Pick airing during Wiggly Waffle in 2011. The song is based on the handclapping game "Down Down Baby." This song probably took place during Construction Week in 2010 judging by the use of tools in the song. Again, can't go wrong with Dennisha Pratt and Chica!

5. Blue Kazoo Blues

This was one of Sean Roach's first numbers when he joined the Sprout team in early 2008. Roach is a legend, and this bluesy song shows it! In the song, he loses his blue kazoo in the Sunshine Barn, but luckily Chica finds it. The song was so popular Elmo sang it in 2009, Dennisha Pratt sang it in 2010, and Roach sang it once again in 2013.

4. Who's Gonna Dance?

Time for a group number! All the hosts rarely sang songs together, but this is one of them. They also all get a chance to dance in front of one another. I'm sure people get a chance to dance in front of one another all the time. This song is soooo good you have no idea. I'm gonna dance, I'm gonna dance!

3. Five Little Chicas

OK. Here's something Sunny Side Up Show-related I remember seeing on Sproutonline.com ten-something years ago. Chica's Mom was in the Sunshine Barn with Dennisha Pratt (or was it another host?) and Chica, then Pratt sang this song (to the tune of "Five Little Ducks") with Chica clones everywhere. On kids shows, the hosts and/or characters are known for singing songs to the tune of public domain songs, and this is a CLEAR example. It's crazy, silly, and funny - what more can you except from a song like this? This song was also sung by Kelly Vrooman in 2008-something.

2. Brand New Day

When The Sunny Side Up Show premiered on September 26, 2007, this song (the first version in the above video, to be presice) was heard for the first time. When Sprout rebranded in 2009, this song got a remake using the "Sproutlet-constructed" box brandings at the time, and the piano in that version adds a nice touch. Both versions are pretty nice. They're also cool and amazing. It gives you a look at who you'll except to meet in the Sunshine Barn. And guess what? This simple song totally works!

And before I get to my number one, here are some honorable mentions…
  1. Kapok Tree Song
  2. The Alphabet Zoo
  3. ABC Rock Out
  4. Let Mom Sleep
  5. Be My Valentine
  6. Roar Like Dinosaurs
  7. Special Summer Song
  8. Rhyming Rap
  9. Where is Chica?
  10. The Mermaid Song

And finally…
1. We Try, We Don't Cry
This song I remember from watching it on the Sprout Games and Videos app five plus years ago. From what I can remember, Tim Kubart sang this after telling Chica they're going to play with Kaitlin Becker next week, but a Wayback Machine archive of Sprout's website shows it was about trying new things for the new year. Hmm… Anyways, this is a perfect song that encourages us all to try new things and not be scared. That message is needed now more than ever.
