Parents and Kids Share Together: The ABCs of Sprout

Madeline Fretz - One silly thing I like to do here at Parents and Kids Share Together is post fun and usually silly things in a label/category called "fun stuff." When I'm not doing Sprout news, reviews, or commentaries on this blog, you can usually find me writing posts labeled as "fun stuff."

Today, I decided to keep up the good work by posting, without further ado, the ABCs of Sprout. Enjoy!

A is for Angelina Ballerina. This amazing HiT Entertainment show and its CGI spin-off which both aired on PBS also aired on Sprout in its first 10 years. Pretty awesome for a PBS show!

B is for Barney. The adventures of the big and bubbly purple dinosaur aired on Sprout again for the first ten years, and slowly became one of their most popular, if not one of their most biggest, shows. Barney's adventures taught important things like bravery, bubbles, and eating breakfast and broccoli.

C is for Chica. Needs no explanation, every Sprout fan knows her! Cool, huh? Sorry, Caillou fans. This is certainly not your cue!

D is for Dragon Tales. Sprout aired too many shows that began with the daring Letter D (dirtgirlworld, Driver Dan's Story Train, Dive Olly Dive), but I'm posting about this here to please many first gen fans. This dandy Sesame Workshop/PBS show aired on Sprout from 2005 to 2010, and was instantly a hit with viewers.

E is for Earth to Luna. This excellent Portuguese show elegantly aired on Sprout from 2014 to 2016, during the NBCUniversal era.

F is for Fireman Sam. This HiT-owned Welsh show about a fierce and friendly firefighter who taught safety aired on Sprout from 2006 to 2014, Sprout had fun promoting and airing it, and it slowly became a fan favorite.

G is for The Good Night Show. This gorgeous programming block aired on Sprout from 2005 to 2017, and was graciously great. It gracefully had calm and wholesome programming with linking segments in between them.

H is for The Hoobs. This happy Henson show aired from 2006 to, to the horror of many fans, 2009. It totally should've been on longer. It was handy, but Sprout hardly liked it.

I is for iTunes. Sprout put its irresistible songs and digital podcasts on this internet hit in 2009. It intelligently worked, but was irritating to many irascible parents.

J is for Jay Jay the Jet Plane. This PBS show aired on Sprout from 2005 to 2009, to the pleasure of many haters, who thought it was just creepy. Its jumpin' theme song is still a jam.

K is for Kipper. This HiT Entertainment show about a kind British dog enjoyed a king-sized on Sprout during the first ten years. Many Sprout fans thought it was a kicker!

L is for The Let's Go Show. This block aired on Sprout from 2007 to 2010. People liked it, but it enjoyed a lovely run and left too soon.

M is for Musical Mornings with Coo. This marvelous, if not miraculous, block mind-blowingly aired on Sprout from 2007 to 2009, encouraging kids to start their mornings by making music. I think that when it stopped airing, many fans got mad.

N is for Nina. The nice without being naughty Goodnight Guide of The Good Night Show, debuting as the new host in 2006. The nation now remembers and loves her.

O is for Olive the Ostrich. This okay show aired on Sprout from 2012 to 2015. It's too new to be an old, original classic.

P is for Pajanimals. This pretty puppet show aired on Sprout for ten years from 2008 to 2018, and aired on The Good Night Show, the block which put preschoolers to sleep.

Q is for Quetzal from Dragon Tales. Quite quickly quality, as I couldn’t find any show or other character which begins with the quiet letter Q.

R is for Roary the Racing Car. This rad HiT show aired on Sprout from 2008 to 2012. For real. Remember it?

S is for The Sunny Side Up Show. This live block safely aired from 2007 to 2017. Same old show. Aimed at kids staying home from school. I was scared of it as a Sproutlet, but overcame when I was probably seven.

T is for Teletubbies. This terrific show (at least to me) aired on Sprout from 2005 to 2009. Good times! Many people thought it was terrible when it was on. Don’t feel trespassed that I mentioned this treasured classic!

U is for Universal Kids. This unfortunate and unnecessary channel owned by NBCUniversal unfairly acquired Sprout in 2017, upsetting many longtime fans. It received both universal acclaim and criticism.

V is for Vault Filmworks. This Philly company made very nice videos for Sprout during the second generation.

W is for What's Your News?. This wacky but wonderful show about ants (and an anteater) putting on a news show aired on Sprout. When? From 2010 to 2012. Where? On The Sunny Side Up Show. Who were the characters? Their weird names were Grant (the ant) and Antony (the anteater). Pretty wild show if you ask me!
