My Week with Promos: Second Generation

Madeline Fretz - When Sprout rebranded on September 21st, 2009 (source), it introduced new graphics and branding, including new promo branding. Today we're going to take a look at these practices.

The regular promo branding, usually used for shows that aired during the Daytime block, was a red screen with a flower button by craft-like flowers.

The Sunny Side Up Show branding was a red screen with a blue play button by two ears of corn and a windmill.

The Good Night Show branding was a purple screen with a green button on a tree in the Goodnight Garden.

The Sprout Sharing Show branding was a cardboard screen surrounded by pom-poms with a blue button.

The Let's Go Show branding was a yellow screen surrounded by badges and a spotlight with a green button by a road.

The Sprout's Wiggly Waffle branding was a waffle with a strawberry button.

My Week with Promos: 2005

The 2005 promos had kids in circles (some of them were in idents such as the Alphabet one). Next to the kids was the Sprout logo. The O would open up to clips from the represented show.

In the middle of the promo, we would see the show's title and time next to a tree.

…and finally we would see the Sprout logo in between two kids, one of whom was in the Birthday Show opening and the Roads ident.

This practice was used not only in promos for shows, but in the likes of the Weekend promo, the "Place Where Teamwork Grows" promo, and in Primal Screen's Sprout ident montage.

Anyways, it is unknown when this practice was removed. Maybe in 2007?

This is my first My Week on this blog since November. Why? I decided to take "Christmas Break," kind of like what the likes of the Mix 98.1 station and Midlothian High School were doing. But still, I still posted on this blog and there was a lot that happened in between - like me releasing my fanfic and that surprise Christmas message video.

My Week with 2008: Sprout and Bright House

Back in 2008, Sprout launched in Tampa, Florida on Bright House Networks (now Spectrum) as Channel 121, and two commercials, the videos you see above, were made to promote.

These promos used the cliché purple television branding from the "We Share" campaign as well as the music from that promo, and featured both clips from The Good Night Show, The Let's Go Show, The Sunny Side Up Show, The Sprout Sharing Show, Barney & Friends, Sesame Street, Caillou, Bob the Builder, Make Way for Noddy, Sprout Diner, and Fifi and the Flowertots, and footage of real kids and their parents goofing out and having fun (the clip of the kids and their mom having breakfast was used in both a Great Sprout Tuck-In PSA and the "Cereal" bumper).

According to Sprout's Jenni Glenn, Sprout previously launched on Time Warner Cable in California and Texas under an affiliation agreement with Time Warner Cable that also extends to Bright House Networks.

Why It's Called That

You ever wonder why the blog is called "Parents and Kids Share Together?" Well, today I’m here to tell you.

Back in the first and second generations, Sprout was often called "the 24-hour preschool channel that parents and kids share together" in promos, commercials, bumpers, and other material. This term was used as early as 2007:

At the end of the above video, a female announcer says "Sprout, the only 24-hour preschool channel parents and kids share together"

The term was used at the end of both Sprout Please commercials…

In "A Lot Happens When You Sprout" and "Showtime"…

…And in both "Live Sprout" commercials.

A new version of the term was used in a promo for The Chica Show. "Parents, kids, and chickens share together." LOL!

And finally, some banner ads:

So now you know why "Parents and Kids Share Together" is called that.

Sprout on Bright House advertisement

Above is a promo from 2008. In addition to various characters waving and saying hi, the promo says to get digital cable $10.95 (plus taxes) every month for 12 months, or call 1-866-976-EASY, or go to MyBrightHouse.com. Bright House Networks is now called Spectrum.

Shows include: Sesame Street, Kipper, Bob the Builder, Fifi and the Flowertots, Noddy, Barney, The Good Night Show, The Let's Go Show, The Sunny Side Up Show, and The Sprout Sharing Show.

Also in the promo, a boy is shown jumping into his mommy's lap.

Also, if anyone can find the music playing in the background, let me know!

Big news!
